A small village situated in the Sonepur or Subarnapur district of Odisha state.This village is very much popular in the western part of Odisha as it is having the largest Goru Bazar or Cow market.The main profession of this village is cultivation and many of the villagers are government or private employees.This village is one of the largest village of the District.This village has a Police Station,Tahsil Office,Canal Sub Division Gram Panchayat Office,Utkala Gramya Bank,a Govt. Hospital,Fire Station,Kalyan Mandap,Court.More than Eight schools and Two colleges are the back bone of the education system.

Most of the people depends upon cultivation where rice is mostly grown.The total cultivation is depends upon the rain water and the canal which is generated from the Hirakud Dam.To control the water level there is a Canal Sub Division Office situated near the village.Apart from cultivation people also depends on business,Government jobs,Private Jobs also they work on the Tuesday weekly market,works as daily worker also.

Rampur is the entrance to the Sonepur district from Bargarh district.The main road which pass through this village is called as Jagannath Road and it starts from Bargarh and ends at Puri.Rampur is well connected to district head quarter Sonepur and other districts like Bargarh,Bolangir,Sambalpur and Boudh.The nearest railway station is Barpali 13 kms away from Rampur which comes under Bargarh district.Dungaripali railway station is the one and only railway station of Sonepur district which is 19 kms away from Rampur.Rampur is well connected to Bhubaneswar the state capital by Road.This place is also well connected to other cities of the state and this is the entrance to some of the neighbouring districts.

Rampur has one Girls’ primery school,Girls’ M.E school,One Boy’s primery cum M.E school,One High school of co-education and a Girls’ High school.All the schools are under Education Department of Government of Odisha.Rampur High school is one of the Oldest and Finest premier Institution.This school has produced many politicians,doctors,engineers,athelitcs,Teachers and many more renowned personalities.

Apart from government schools Rampur has a Saraswati Sisu Mandir and a Rampur Irrigation Colony New P S School also keep their significance.Apart from this few Private English medium schools are recently opened.

Rampur celebrates all the festivals but Nuakhai is widely celebrated here.Maa Chandlipat is the Main Goddess of Rampur and for Nuakhai and all other celebration her blessing is required.Apart from Nuakhai we do celebrate Ratha Yatra and Shiv ratri also.The Nine Days Car Festival is celebrated with lots of Joy and enthusiasm.We also receive Bol Bum devotees from the locals and near by villages.

The Rampur Shiv Temple is the gateway to the village.A pond attached to this temple helps the localite in various ways.Every monday large number of devotees comes for worship.

Chandlipat Temple is around 8 kms away from Rampur is the main place which is called as Puja Dangar also.This place consists of a Various small small hills and dense forest.Usha Kothi in Puja Dangar is having some ancients drawings and these are fresh till now.Sonepur King and Rampur Jamidar were using this place as a safe war Field.

Kabaddi is played in each and every schools and everyone likes this game.The former Physical Education Teacher of rampur High school Mr.Rabindra Dash has created many National level players from kabaddi.One of the students of Rampur High Schhol has represented India in Shanghai Of China in this game.

Apart from Kabaddi,Football and cricket also widely played.In winter every corner of

rampur turns into badminton Court.rampur boys also plays Keli badi,Bati,Tass and many more local games.

Mr.Niranjan Pujhari MLA of Sonepur is a localite from Rampur and he is a Minister Of Odisha government.He was an ex-speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly.He is from the Biju Janata Dal.Apart from BJD rampur has influence of the Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party.Father of Mr.Niranjan Pujhari is treated as a Communist Leader and he is a freedom fighter of this area.

The newly started Rampur Dhanujatra is a remarkable work done by the villegers.Now a days its having a huge audience.

Rampur has various water sources and The Bad Bandh is one of its type in this area.Rampur villagers are very much dependable upon this for there day to day work.
